10-Minute Thanksgiving Pause with Psalm 100

Instead of the news this week, I wanted to provide a reflective exercise. It’s Thanksgiving. You are probably being hosted by family members (or hosting family members) and this exercise is designed to help us slow down and reflect on Psalm 100. So grab a comfy blanket, invite the whole family, and let’s… slow down…

Music provided by Podcastle

Psalm 100: A Psalm for giving thanks

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!

2

    Serve the Lord with gladness!

Come into his presence with singing!

3

Know that the Lord, he is God!

It is he who made us, and we are his;[a]

we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,

    and his courts with praise!

Give thanks to him; bless his name!

5

For the Lord is good;

    his steadfast love endures forever,

and his faithfulness to all generations.

The Fourth Man in the Fire: A Biblical Response to Third Man Syndrome

What is Third Man Syndrome—a hallucination of the mind, or evidence of something greater? In this episode, we explore the psychological explanation for the “unseen companion” people report in moments of danger and compare it with a very familiar story found in the Bible.

From explorers to survivors, many have felt a mysterious presence—but the Bible points us to the Fourth Man in the Fire who stood with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Join me as I uncover why God’s presence isn’t just psychological comfort, but real deliverance in the heat of life’s trials.

Breaks Beat Burnout 🔥➡️💪😴

Although summer is long gone, the Holiday season for travel and vacation is just around the corner. Throughout the years, my family and I have been on a number of vacations where we’ve made memories and still talk about our experiences, today. Whether it’s the mountains in Tennessee, a cabana in Negril, Jamaica, the busy streets of New York City, or the magnificent Grand Canyon. Whether you’re traveling to a far-off destination, or just taking a few days off at home, vacationing can be one of the most restorative things you do for your mind and body. But the real key is approaching it mindfully — before, during, and after your time away.

When Violence Shakes a Nation: From Charlotte to Utah

Violence has a way of shaking us to the core. In recent weeks, two tragedies have gripped our nation. But here’s the question: How should we respond? Not just politically, not just socially—but spiritually. Today, we’re going to step back from the headlines and ask: What does the Bible say when a nation is rocked by violence? We’ll explore five timeless truths from scripture—truths about the value of life, the call to justice, the danger of hatred, the responsibility of leadership, and the hope of peace through Christ.

Would Sherlock Qualify? 🕵️‍♂️ Diagnosing Fictional Minds (and Maybe Your Own)

In this episode, I’ll be applying diagnostic criteria to two fictional characters: Sherlock Holmes (played by various actors) and Charlie (from the film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, played by Logan Lerman). As I journey through these characters' stories, you may see some related themes in your own life. At first, the episode will be a little…technical (with loads of medical jargon). But, stick with me. You might learn something about yourself. And, it may surprise you to learn about my view of diagnostic criteria…

SPOILER ALERT for anyone who has not seen these characters portrayed in media (as I will be discussing specific moments). Also, my utilization of these films and characters is not an endorsement of their content nor their themes.

Failure to Launch, 13 Going on 30 & Adolescent Rituals

In this episode, I’ll be breaking down the “launching” life cycle stage experienced by families with children. To do this, I’ll be exploring the themes and characters portrayed in the 2004 film 13 Going On 30. McGoldrick and colleagues (2015) note that “Adolescents are more prone to take risks than adults because the hormones that signal seeking pleasure are at their height of intensity. The lag between physical, sexual, and mental development explains some of the erratic behavior and poor judgment that characterize many adolescents and that frighten adults” (p. 305).

SPOILER ALERT for anyone who has not seen this movie (as I will be discussing specific moments in the film). Also, my utilization of this film is not an endorsement of its content nor its themes.

The MinDful PharmD Podcast
Toward Community Policing & Consulting Larger Systems

Systemic therapists are well suited to consult organizations given the structural concepts pioneered by early family therapists. Additionally, family therapists are suited for consultant work with organizations because of their interest in the welfare of the individuals and the system. This interest allows the family therapists to work toward improving the interactions between managers and employees, for example, to strengthen the system’s productivity.
