The societal challenges that lie ahead for the transit industry | Lee Sanders (3)

In this episode of the Venari Podcast, Gov Kandola, Senior Consultant in Transport, Travel & Logistics, met Lee Sander, former president for Bombardier Americas.

A couple of topics that came up during the discussion were around climate change, and our need to reduce our carbon footprint, along with issues of equity and the importance of a reliable transportation system for lower/middle income families who may not have the ability to work from home.

Lee Sander is the former President of Bombardier Transportation’s Americas Region from 2018 until the business was acquired by Alstom in January 2021. Prior to joining Bombardier, Mr. Sander was Managing Director, Global Transportation and US Infrastructure at Hatch Ltd. In addition, he held leadership roles at AECOM, notably as Group Chief Executive-Global Transportation, and at HAKS Group, where he was President and CEO.

Credited with turning around several high-profile public sector organizations in New York, he is a former Executive Director and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, and served as a Commissioner on the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Mr. Sander served as Chairman of the Regional Plan Association and remains on the Association’s Board. From 2010 to 2021 he served on the Board of the National Express Group, most recently as Senior Independent Director. He is also Vice Chairman of the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation.

In addition, he is the founder of the Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management at New York University where he was also an adjunct associate professor of public policy at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. He also co-founded the Empire State Transportation Alliance.
