171. Free Up Brain Space by Letting Go of Food Anxiety, Practicing Intuitive Eating and Rebuilding Self-Trust
Feeling like food is taking up way too much brain space? You're not alone and it's more common than you think.  The constant overthinking, the mental load you carry around eating, and the pressure built from years of unspoken rules is exhausting and easy to miss because it’s been normalized. But that doesn’t mean it’s healthy, and it definitely doesn’t have to stay that way. In this episode, we unpack what it really means when your thoughts are constantly circling around food, eating, and your body. We will explore how diet culture, food tracking apps, and overwhelming food rules can lead to food obsession, chronic overthinking, and a disconnect from your body’s natural cues. This conversation normalizes the mental load so many women carry about food and introduces key mindset shifts rooted in intuitive eating, mindful eating, and health at every size. You’ll hear how cultural messaging, past dieting patterns, and body mistrust can quietly erode self-trust and lead to patterns like emotional eating, food anxiety, and even disordered eating. You’ll also learn the difference between a healthy level of food awareness and the kind that drains your energy and joy. If you've been craving more peace, less guilt, and a better relationship with food, this episode offers clarity, compassion, and a new way forward. You’ll learn: What it looks like when food takes up too much brain space The connection between body image, control, and food-related stress How body trust and food freedom start with unlearning cultural messages Why overthinking food is often a symptom of larger emotional or identity struggles What a healthy relationship with food can actually feel like in daily life Let’s rebrand wellness together! 170. Community as Medicine: Why Healing Happens Together
Healing isn’t a solo project—community is a real wellness intervention. In this episode, Maria breaks down why emotional and mental wellbeing improves when we’re supported, witnessed, and validated by other people, not just “checked on,” but truly seen. She shares what it means to feel emotionally seen, how that kind of connection can calm the nervous system, and why so many of us default to fixing, minimizing, or rushing past emotions instead of holding space. Maria shares what she learned from 12 years working in an emergency room, including how quickly someone can shift when they feel safe, understood, and not judged. That lived experience sparked her creation of the Emotional Fitness Studio, an “emotional gym” where people build emotional awareness and practical tools through shared experiences, not just information. Whether you’re local or not, the episode ends with actionable ways to create emotional-fitness moments in everyday life, at home, in the car, in relationships, through curiosity, attention, and making space for all emotions. In this episode: Healing often happens faster when you’re supported in community instead of trying to carry everything alone. Feeling emotionally seen—acknowledged, validated, accepted—can settle the nervous system in real time. Shared experience reduces shame and helps people feel less isolated in what they’re carrying. You can create “emotional fitness” anywhere by noticing, asking curious questions, and resisting the urge to fix. Safe spaces are built through intention, care, and welcoming all emotions without judgment. 169. When Exercise Feels Like Too Much
Feeling like movement would help, but still choosing the couch is more common than we admit. In this episode, the Wellness: Rebranded hosts unpack why so many women want to move their bodies but feel too exhausted, overwhelmed, or mentally drained to do it. The conversation begins by normalizing this experience and naming the difference between physical exhaustion and mental load, especially in seasons of burnout. This episode also introduces practical reframes like exercise snacks, the five-minute rule, redefining what movement looks like in daily life, and the importance of support and scheduling. The core message is clear: wellness is personal, movement isn’t one-size-fits-all, and exhaustion is a signal—not a failure. In this episode: Mental and emotional exhaustion can block movement more than physical fatigue Shame and “shoulds” make movement harder, not easier Short bursts of movement still count and can improve energy Enjoyment matters more than intensity or location Rest and movement both belong in a sustainable wellness routine Register for Exhale: A Retreat for Women Who are Tired of Doing it All::  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1970003420261?aff=oddtdtcreator   Connect with us!The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37eElizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDNFB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating communityhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeatingInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutritionFree download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet Tara De Leon, Master Personal TrainerEmail: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitnessJoin Tara’s Newsletter: www.taradeleonfitness.com/connect  Maria Winters, LCPC, NCCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapyWebsite: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

165. How Losing Her Voice Helped Her Finally Hear Herself: Liana’s Awakening Story
Losing your voice can become the moment you finally decide to hear yourself. This episode is a raw, vulnerable look at what happens when life forces you to stop, sit down, and re-meet the woman you really are. Maria introduces a new layer of the Wellness: Rebranded movement: sharing real stories from real women. For the first guest in this series, we welcome Liana Morris to tell what she calls her “awakening story.”  Liana opens up about years of hustle, a kitchen-island breakdown during 2020, an autoimmune diagnosis, thyroid removal, and then literally losing her voice for months. She shares how therapy, yoga, mantras, values work, and creating non-negotiable space in her schedule helped her untangle her identity from job titles and roles like “corporate worker” and “do-it-all mom.” Together, we explore how hustle culture, diet culture, and constant urgency pull women away from who they are, and how contrast, acceptance, and small daily practices can bring you back home to yourself. This episode is for any woman who feels overwhelmed, disconnected, or like she’s hiding her true self behind responsibilities and expectations. In this episode: A powerful awakening story of illness, surgery, and losing a voice—then finding a truer one How yoga, meditation, mantras, and values exercises can create literal and emotional space in your life Why hustle culture, diet culture, and constant urgency exhaust your nervous system and identity The role of contrast, acceptance, and “this too shall pass” in moving through hard seasons Encouragement for women who feel lost, stuck, or like they don’t know who they are anymore   This episode is brought to you by Jukestir. 161. From Routine Mammogram to Resilience: Ellen Lunay’s Journey of Business, Health & Community
Today we welcome Ellen Lunay, the founder of Here: A Pop-Up Shop in Annapolis, whose life took a dramatic turn when a routine mammogram in August 2022 revealed breast cancer. At 54, at the same moment she'd just dropped her oldest daughter off at college and was prepping for her fall pop-up shop, Ellen found herself walking through surgery, radiation, business care and motherhood all at once.  In this episode, El opens up about what carried her through: the power of community over competition, learning how to ask for help, embracing grace and boundaries, and why sharing your story matters. If you’re navigating a health challenge, a business hurdle, or wondering how to build meaningful connections in your life, you’ll want to hear this. In this episode: How Ellen discovered the diagnosis and how she responded immediately. Why the community she built through her business became one of her greatest supports. The difference between being the giver and being willing to receive help. How naming your story actually helps calm your nervous system and guide decisions. Why rest, grace and boundaries are essential — especially when you’re used to “hustle.” What’s changed for Ellen for the better since her diagnosis — how she now shows up differently in business, in motherhood, in life. 157. Beyond Diet and Exercise: How Social Determinants of Health Impact You
When you think about health, you probably picture food and exercise. But the truth is, health is shaped far more by social determinants of health—the conditions in which we live, learn, work, and connect. In this episode we break down what social determinants of health really are, why they matter, and how they can shape your wellbeing just as much (or more) than diet and exercise. By understanding the social determinants of health, you can drop the shame, find more compassion, and focus on the areas of wellness that truly support your life. You’ll learn: What social determinants of health mean and why they’re often overlooked in wellness culture The surprising impact of your zip code and neighborhood on life expectancy How education and income level are tied to long-term health outcomes The role of community and social support in reducing risk of early death Why chronic stress and financial wellbeing can affect every organ system How sleep, creativity, volunteering, and career satisfaction improve wellbeing beyond the gym or kitchen What NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) means and why everyday movement matters If you’ve ever felt pressured to “eat perfectly” or “work out more” to be healthy, this episode will help you zoom out. You’ll see how whole-person wellbeing is shaped by environment, relationships, and access—not just personal choices.    Wellness: Rebranded is turning 3 years old! What if your doctor could “prescribe” a nature walk, a museum visit, or coffee with a friend—and it actually improved your health? In this episode, we explore social prescribing, a growing global movement that connects people to non-clinical supports proven to enhance physical, mental, and social well-being. Rebecca (Becky) Hass, certified life coach, Programming & Outreach Manager for Anne Arundel County Public Library, and author of 101 Seeds for Library Joy, shares how she combines positive psychology with community engagement through her consulting company, Joy Work, LLC. Ever catch yourself spiraling from “I ate a bagel” to “welp, day’s ruined”? Today Maria and Elizabeth unpack the sneaky thought patterns that mess with our wellness and show you how to call them out, reframe them, and move on with a lot more self-compassion. This episode is brought to you by TCP Youth Empowerment. Every child deserves someone in their corner. To sponsor a child, visit TCP to 44-321 or visit https://www.tcpyouthempowerment.org/ Friendships are one of the most important pieces of our health and wellness puzzle, but in midlife, they can look very different than they did in our 20s or 30s. Some friendships fade, some deepen, and some need a little “redesigning” to stay healthy and supportive. In this episode, we get real about the ups and downs of friendships in our 40s, 50s, and beyond. From the pain of being ghosted by a lifelong friend to the relief of no longer putting up with draining relationships, we explore how midlife changes our approach to connection, boundaries, and community. We share personal stories—both heartbreaks and joys—and talk about why friendships are not just emotional, but also physical health lifelines. You’ll hear about redesigning relationships, the role of boundaries, and why even one or two solid friendships can be more powerful than a dozen “okay-ish” ones. In this episode: Why some friendships naturally fade (and why it’s not always about you) How to “redesign” a friendship before letting it go The role of confidence, clarity, and boundaries in midlife relationships Why loneliness—physical or emotional—can harm health more than you realize How strong friendships can become an essential part of your wellness journey Resources:  Intuitive Eating Starter Kit: Use code PODCAST to get this for just $14 https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/starterkit Trainers: Become the Go-To Expert at Your Gym with Tara’s free mini course: https://www.taradeleonfitness.com/ Connect with us!    The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitnessJoin Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

153. Why Do We Resist the Things We Know Are Good for Us?
We all know what we “should” do: move our bodies more, eat in ways that support us, stick to the habits that make us feel better. But actually doing those things consistently? That’s where resistance shows up. In this episode we unpack resistance, such as the excuses, fears, and old belief patterns that can keep us stuck even when we know what we want. From the intimidation of walking into a gym to the frustration of not seeing results fast enough in therapy, resistance shows up in sneaky ways across health, wellness, and life. We share personal stories, client experiences, and even a trainer’s unlikely journey that started with just sitting in her car outside the gym. You’ll hear why resistance isn’t a failure, how small “bare minimum” steps can build momentum, and why self-compassion is essential for lasting change. In this episode: How childhood experiences and shame can shape resistance as adults The role of all-or-nothing thinking and learned helplessness Why resistance often masks itself as “I don’t have time” or “I’ll start later” The power of micro-steps, short-term goals, and finding your “why” Why self-compassion—not guilt or blame—is the real motivator for change Resources mentioned in this episode: Exercise Snacks: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wellness-rebranded-intuitive-eating-diet-culture-mental/id1651744916?i=1000717469519 GLP1: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wellness-rebranded-intuitive-eating-diet-culture-mental/id1651744916?i=1000718560588 Connect with us!    The Ultimate Self Care Planner: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.ck.page/9e817ab37e   Elizabeth Harris, MS, RDN, LDN FB: Health and Healing with Intuitive Eating community https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthandhealingwithintuitiveeating Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ElizabethHarrisNutrition Free download to break up with diet culture: https://elizabethharrisnutrition.com/invisible-diet   Tara De Leon, Master Personal Trainer Email: FitnessTrainer19@hotmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tara_de_leon_fitnessJoin Tara’s Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/5290e3f13e08/email-signup Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coaching_therapist/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/MWcoachingtherapy Website: www.thecoachingtherapist.com

152. The Biggest Loser Exposed: How a TV Show Fueled Diet Culture and Harmed a Generation
The new Fit for TV documentary on The Biggest Loser has us fired up. This reality show wasn’t just “entertainment,” it reshaped diet culture, fitness, and the way we think about bodies in ways that were harmful, abusive, and dehumanizing.    In this episode, we’re breaking down why the show was so damaging and what it means for how we approach health today. This documentary was a stark reminder that your body isn’t a spectacle, you don’t owe anyone a before-and-after picture, and health should never come at the cost of your dignity. In this episode: How The Biggest Loser normalized extreme and unsafe weight loss practices. The ripple effects it created in gyms, workplaces, and wellness programs across the country. Why diet culture about profit, not health. Weighing benefits vs costs of weight loss programs. Red flags to look out for in trainers, programs, and “health” challenges.
