Fame is dumb... there I said it!
Fame, stardom and celebrity tarnish the soul and the quality of this thing called the human experience.
It tends to corrupt and lead people to become something that is not in line with their true nature.
One way I mentally combat this phenomenon is to remember the human behind it.
My method is unusual, but it works.

“How many times you have been given a period of grace by the gods and not used it.”—Marcus Aurelius
The hour glass is such a beautiful and symbolic image for so many reasons, but mostly because it gives us a visceral look at how our own life passes.
One grain at a time (one moment at a time).
Each one of these moments is an opportunity to be happy and live how our nature intended.
And every moment that slips pass is a wasted opportunity to be.
Instead, do yourself a favour, remove your expectations and be good today.

“Don’t you know life is like a military campaign? One must serve on watch, another in reconnaissance, another on the front line.”—Epictetus
Everyday feels more frantic.
We are constantly woken to news of unrest, death, fear and betrayal.
It’s hard to focus at times.
The way to combat the turmoil and unrest is to go within, focus on your directing mind and continue to build your strength.
Stay true to your principles and free yourself from fear.

“The philosopher’s body also must be well prepared for work because often virtues use it as a necessary tool for the activities of life.”—Musonius Rufus
I used to be terrified of the gym.
Terrified of physical fitness, hard work, delaying gratification and let's face it... gym bros.
In recent years I have seen fitness as my friend.
Something that can challenge me physically, and in turn harden my mentally.
I believe in being life fit, ready for any challenge that might come my way.
In this podcast I discuss the idea of the back of Practical Stoicism pod with Tanner Campbell.

"Every event has two handles, one by which it can be carried, and one by which it can't."—Epictetus
There are going to be things in your day to day life that simply do not warrant a reaction.
In the quote at the top, Epictetus famously referred to every situation having 2 handles.
One that can carry the load and one that cannot.
There will always be justification to involve yourself in every dispute, argument, disagreement, fight or melee.
But do you have to?
Protect your future self, choose the right handle.

“Fight to be the person philosophy tried to make you.”― Marcus Aurelius
Life is a battle.
Every day we must fight to be good.
Everyday you are given choices to make, paths to take, rules to forsake.
You must take this challenge with both hands and constantly remind yourself of your duty.
No one said it would be easy, but the spoils of battle will be yours for eternity.

Everyday we are given the opportunity to apply our principles.
Marcus Aurelius said... "The model for application of your principles is the boxer rather than the gladiator. The gladiator puts down or takes up the sword he uses, but the boxer always has his hands and needs only to clench them into fists.”
You are not forced to be good, but how you show up in the world will ultimately govern how people see you and the quality of your life.
Stoicism demands that you do not put down your principles.
In this podcast I look at professional boxer GGG and fitness influence The Liver King.
And examine how they have both applied their principles.

I spent a large portion of my life as an anxious, underachieving boy with low self-confidence.
In the last few years I have been able to achieve something that I am very proud of... I have learned how to become my own best friend.
What do I mean by that?
I mean that regardless of where I am or what I am doing, I am supportive and positively reinforcing myself.
Like a good best friend should.
In this podcast I talk about this concept and Seneca's famous quote that basically brought me to Stoicism and this magical place that I now find myself in.
Thank you for your time friend.

“That in a short while you will be nobody and nowhere: and the same of all that you now see and all who are now alive. It is the nature of all things to change, to perish and be transformed, so that in succession different things can come to be.”—Marcus
Impermanence: the state or fact of lasting for only a limited period of time.
In this episode I take a look at the idea of impermanence.
That big, beautifully terrifying thing that awaits us all.
I examine Ari Onassis and his apparent disappearance from the minds of the average man in 2024.
And what Alexander the Great and his mule driver had in common.
Please enjoy and it would be wonderful if you could subscribe to the podcast.
Cheers.
I’ve been on a journey in recent years.
From hating myself and avoiding stepping into my power, to healing myself and facing life’s challenges head on.
It’s been taxing, but oh so rewarding.
Stoicism is one tool that I have used as I have begun the rebuild of my life.
The great stoic wisdom imparted from Marcus, Epictetus and Seneca have an ancient weight behind it that is hard to refute.
This podcast and this writing is my attempt to distill some of the stoic ideas that I have used on my journey so far.
I hope you find some use from this content.
Best wishes on your journey to becoming stoic!
