@easydoublepod is a running podcast hosted by Ryan, Dean and Eoin. We all come from very different backgrounds but have ended up as training partners in Perth, Australia. Generally we talk about running a bit too much, whether that be shoes, nutrition, training, performances, conspiracy theories or just poking fun at each other. Our long runs often take us down some rabbit holes and we thought it could be both insightful and humorous to explore some of these on a podcast. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, contrary to our approach to training. Welcome to the Easy Double Club.

EDP38: Cardiff XC / Training Camp week 2 / Fremantle Running Festival

The boys are back – sunburned, caffeinated, and firing on all cylinders.

This week, we kick things off local with the Fremantle Running Festival, before diving into the Cardiff Cross Challenge, the opening round of the 2025/26 UK Athletics Cross Challenge Series. In the news, the AIU drops retrospective Russian doping bans, Jimmy Whelans transition from cyclist/triathlete to runner grabs YouTube diaries, and the lads debate one of the biggest moral issues in modern running: the rise of OfficialUnofficialMarathonTime – the Strava police exposing GPS inflation and early watch-stoppers.

This week, the team dives deep into the 2025 New York City Marathon, unpacking Helen Obiri’s course record-breaking run, the Kenyan clean sweep, and what makes the NYC course one of the most iconic and brutal in the world. We also debate why more pros are choosing tactical, non-paced races.

Noosa Bolt happened up on the east coast of Australia, where Jude Thomas and Maudie Skyring reigned victorious.

Eoin goes through in detail his biggest training week ever (in Spain) as he continues to build towards Irish National Cross Country Championships In this week's double trouble,

EDP36: Valencia Half / Burnie 10 / Dublin Marathon / Chepngetich gets 3 years / New York preview

The boys are back with a massive episode covering a packed weekend of global racing. From the Valencia Half Marathon where Agnes Ngetich came close to the world record, Kejelcha took a shot at his own course record and Almgren becomes the first European to break 59min. The Brits impressed too with Alfie Manthorpe leading Charles Wheeler, Alex Yee and Ben Connor but Irelands Efrem Gidey pipped them all —

Eoin recaps the Dublin Marathon where a 19 year old woman runs 2:34! Also the results from Burnie10 in Tasmania.

We unpack the latest headlines too: Ruth Chepngetich’s doping ban and what it means for the sport, the stacked New York City Marathon elite field (Bekele added whilst lots of late scratching causing big changes to the elite fields, plus a quick dip into UKA’s financial “surplus.”

Training weeks are back on the agenda — including Eoin’s Cross Country recap — and YouTube Diaries returns with the Coffee Club's interview of ON team mate Joe Klecker ahead of his NYC Marathon debut this weekend.

The lads wrap up with Double Trouble, featuring Dan Wein’s hot take on “junk mileage” and whether cooling down 5 k is just ego miles.

Joe Wigfield: Knocking on the Door – 62:04 Manchester Half Winner

This week, Ryan sits down with fellow Wirral native Joe Wigfield – the newly-crowned Manchester Half Marathon champion after an impressive 62:04 win over GB international Jonny Mellor.

Joe actually coached Ryan to his 2:45 debut marathon so they share some early reflections on the coach/athlete relationship.

They dive straight into the details behind Manchester: the race plan, pacing calls, mental battles, and what it’s like tackling longer distances when you come from the track. How to beat and elite marathoner as a traditional 800/1500m guy and what is going through Joe's mind at different points throughout the race.

Joe rewinds to his early days at Wirral AC, where he juggled high jump and middle-distance before heading to St Mary’s University under coach Craig Winrow, reflects on a brief and confusing year with HOKA, and opens up on the lessons that shaped his career.

There’s plenty more – from GB selection debates to World Cross in Bathurst, dealing with stress fractures, rebuilding confidence, and chasing redemption at the British Champs. Plus a quick-fire round where Joe picks between a GB vest or Liverpool’s Champions League, reveals his top coffee spots in Teddington, and his beer of choice.

One of Britain’s most versatile distance talents, Joe’s story is about resilience, range, and the belief that the best is yet to come.

EDP34: Chicago, Melbourne & Perth Marathon Results / The ATHLOS Debate / Femke's 800m Move /

EDP34- The lads are back and reporting from Ireland and both corners of Australia.

We start off by going through both Perth and Melbourne marathon results, at the time of recording Chicago hadn't even started but Eoin runs through the results at the end of the episode.

We chat all things Athlos, a female-only track meet which took place in NYC. We dicscuss whether such specialised competitions still serve a purpose in today's athletics landscape.

Femke Bol's announces her bold transition from 400m hurdles to 800m, exploring what this move means for her career and the excitement it generates in the sport.

The boys have a brief discussion on training shoes and wonder if super shoes are all that super.

We chat our own training updates.

Youtube Diaries features Australias own Andy Buchanan.

Rounding out the episode we chat all things cross country regarding World Cross Country selection processes in Ireland, Australia and the UK.

Whether you're a casual runner or a serious competitor, this episode delivers expert analysis, insider perspectives, and plenty of running talk to fuel your next run.

EDP33: Perth, Melbourne, Chicago Marathon Preview / UK Coach Banned / Grand Slam Athletes get paid! (half)

EDP33 — the boys are back and there’s plenty to unpack.

We recorded too early to cover results but reference: Cardiff Half, where Jake Smith & Callum Hawkins battled through Storm Amy chaos, plus a full breakdown of Eoin’s race week and a cross-training check-in from Dean and Ryan.

In the news round-up, we cover the loaded Chicago Marathon elite field, preview the Melbourne and Perth Marathon festivals. We also react to the headline story from the UK — coach Andy Young handed a three-year ban for serious misconduct — and what it says about athlete welfare in elite sport.

There’s more: Grand Slam Track receives a $5.3 million funding boost (with a few strings attached).

YouTube Diaries features British marathoner Phil Sessemann and his eye-watering double threshold session ahead of Amsterdam and Valencia, while Double Trouble welcomes a Clubhouse update that proves “the wheel that squeaks gets greased.”

All that, plus Cat Chat (courtesy of Cooper Teare), a front-crawl vs freestyle debate, and a wrap-up that somehow ends with the Singapore GP, Liverpool’s latest disaster.

Grab your coffee, lace up, and settle in — it’s another big one from Easy Double.

EDP31: Tokyo World Athletics Championships / Berlin Marathon / City2Bay

Tokyo World Championships — and it’s been a wild one. We dive into every corner of the track and road: Gressier weaving through late to steal the men’s 10,000m, Simbu producing one of the most dramatic marathon finishes in history, Faith Kipyegon extending her reign with another 1500m crown, and Jake Wightman rewriting his own fairytale in a chaotic men’s 1500m final.

Shock medals in just about every event.

We talk redemption arcs (Cole Hocker in the 5000m), disappointments, breakout stars, and ask the big question: did these championships live up to expectations? Plus, who came out on top in the medal table battle between Australia, the UK, and Ireland?

Outside of Tokyo, we cover Berlin Marathon storylines, City2Bay results, Alex Yee lining up for Valencia, Centro targeting a big run in Chicago, and Ryan manages to find a double trouble whilst tuning in to Australian coverage of Gout Gout.

Andrew Coscoran: The boy from Ireland taking on the world - Grand Slam Track & Diamond League life, Training Smarter and the importance of recovery, Always striving for more

Eoin sat down with multiple Irish record holder 1 week out from competing at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Andrew dialled in from Ireland Athletics holding camp in a blazing Hong Kong.

Andrew explains how he plans to navigate the rounds of a major Championship whilst competing in both 1500m & 5000m - in terms of ticking over inbetween races, getting the perfect balance of recovery and priming for the next race.

Andrew talks about how he first found running as a junior, the challenges of trying to fit into a system rather than the system being built around you in USA and moving on when the time is right and striving for more.

Eoin asks Andrew about his experiences at Grand Slam Track, the financial opportunities that come with it, the pressures and tactics of the second race when you know how much money is on the line and the realities of 'getting the call' - changing flights and altitude camp plans.

Andrew also talks about life on the road in racing on the Diamond League circuit, how important heart rate is in being an indicator of overtraining, managing recovery, load and stress on the body.

Andrew has recently joined Team New Balance Manchester and shares an incredibly insightful typical summer training week including the perhaps controversial lack of a long run!

Tune in to the World Athletic Championships in Tokyo from this Saturday and follow Andrew as he flies the Irish flag in the 1500m & 5000m

Our long runs often take us down some rabbit holes and we thought it could be both insightful and humorous to explore some of these on a podcast. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, contrary to our approach to training. Welcome to the Easy Double Club.
