Think of your brain as a computer 🖥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Imagine if you opened up a few windows, and a few more, and eventually you open 1 million windows. And by the time you're done on social media and reading recipes for dinner tonight, your computer is working so slowly that you can barely get through typing an email.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's not that your computer isn't capable of typing that email...far from it! It's that you're using so much energy on those open windows that it doesn't have any computing power left for the task at hand.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what the stress does to our brain machine. Every single time you've ever been stressed, every time you've had a fight-or-flight reaction, yesterday, last week, last month, last year 🤯 And like an open window on your brain computer, it's a huge waste of energy that you can't afford.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Meditation is like giving your brain's computer a re-start 🧠➡️💪
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And, if your are thinking "I don't have time to sit still and waste my time." - no judgement if so - my answer is that you actually don't have time NOT to meditate.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Meditation gives you greater focus and clarity and makes you more productive 🏆

As we've explored, the open awareness practice can give us the gift of being aware. Aware of things like our thoughts, and emotions, what's happening in our work, but without getting stuck or hung up on them, as we may usually do.

This meditation will allow you to pause and develop self-awareness and clarity.
Sit comfortably, find a stable position you can maintain for a while. Close your eyes or leave them open and just lower your gaze.
And remember, thoughts are not the enemy here. One of the realities of meditation is that when we practise consistently it starts to bring up some deep awareness. These aren't always easy to face and can be challenging, but they don't have to stop you from practising. I really encourage you to have a place of support if you need it. You can always contact me for support at mindfuldentistry@gmail.com
Enough.
These few words are enough
If not these words, this breath
If not this breath, this sitting here
This opening to life
We have refused again and again
Until now

Usually when we walk, we are going somewhere, and we do it in an automatic way. Here we are not going anywhere. The goal is to experience your feet making contact with the earth with each step that you take and noticing the sensations in your body. Mindful walking can be just as profound as a sitting meditation practice.

Slowly and intentionally scanning your body with your mind focusing from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. The focus is on being relaxed and aware as you reclaim a connection (rather than resistance) to your body and the sensations that you feel. If you’re experiencing pain, for example, the practice is to notice the sensation and not try to block it—practicing noticing rather than judging—practicing being comfortable with the uncomfortable.
