The Process with Dr. Masi
#012 - Billy Kemper

Billy Kemper is a four-time Peʻahi (Jaws) Champion, Big Wave World Champion, and one of the most respected surfers of his generation. Known for charging the heaviest waves on Earth — and surviving the ones that nearly took his life — Billy has built a legacy on grit, preparation, and an unshakable belief in purpose. But behind the highlight reels is a man who’s had to rebuild from the inside out. From life-threatening injuries and concussions to the loss of his mother and the daily work of fatherhood, Billy’s story is one of resilience, faith, and transformation.

In this episode, Dr. Masi Reynolds sits down with Billy for a candid conversation about the cost of greatness — what it takes to reach the top, what it demands of a family, and how to evolve when the old mindset no longer serves. Billy opens up about balancing his drive as an athlete with his role as a husband and father, the mental toll of recovery, and how he found meaning beyond competition. He also breaks down his training and recovery system — from NAD and stem-cell therapy to the lessons learned under surf coach Kahea Hart, the mentor behind some of Hawaii’s best watermen.

Together, they explore how physical healing and emotional awareness go hand in hand, and why real success begins when the scoreboard disappears. This conversation is about presence, purpose, and the lifelong process of becoming whole — in body, mind, and spirit.

The Process with Dr. Masi
#011 - Julia Mancuso

Julia Mancuso, known to the world as “Super Jules,” is one of the greatest ski racers of all time. A four-time Olympic medalist (including gold in Giant Slalom at Torino 2006), five-time World Championship medalist, and with 36 World Cup podiums, Julia’s career was defined by fearless racing and doing things her own way.

From skipping grades in school to training on Maui when others doubted, she carved a path that inspired a generation of athletes. But behind the medals was a body fighting hip dysplasia, labrum tears, and years of pain. Her story is one of defiance, resilience, and reinvention—choosing joy even when the road was anything but easy.

In this episode, Dr. Masi sits down with Julia to explore her career against the grain: how “Super Jules” transformed setbacks into fuel, the lessons she learned navigating surgeries and hip replacement, and the decision every athlete faces—“how many years are you asking for back?” Along the way, Julia reflects on the confidence her mother instilled, the evolution from ski racing to raising a family on Tavarua, and why surfing and foiling in her 40s keeps her pushing limits.

This conversation is about intuition, purpose, and the courage to live life on your own terms.
