For our first episode of 2022, we looked back on the January transfer window and assessed the signings made by every Midlands club. Aston Villa were the club who probably impressed us the most with their winter dealings, after securing the signatures of Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho.
We also looked ahead to some of the FA Cup ties surrounding our teams, that are due to take place this weekend. Arguably the standout match-up will see East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest and Leicester City going head-to-head for the first time since February 2014.

Grealish was applauded by some Villa fans but booed by others when he was brought off the bench late in the game, which City won 2-1.
We also looked ahead to a big weekend of FA Cup action, with four Midlands clubs looking to progress to the third round of the competition. Burton Albion and Port Vale will go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon, with the Brewers aiming to secure their third straight victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

The Villans defeated Brighton 2-0 at Villa Park in front of an unsurprisingly raucous home crowd thanks to late goals from Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings.
Additionally, we looked back at a fantastic week for Derby County on the pitch. The Rams were recently deducted a further 9 points, but their players responded to that significant setback by beating Bournemouth 3-2 at Pride Park before drawing 0-0 with Championship leaders Fulham in midweek.

On this week’s show, we gave our reaction to Leicester City’s first defeat of the season after they were beaten by West Ham United at the London Stadium. Three Midlands clubs – West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Coventry City – find themselves in the Championship top six after the first four rounds of matches, so we talked about whether or not they can maintain their strong starts.
However, at the opposite end of the second-tier, Nottingham Forest are in a spot of bother having lost their opening four games. After the Reds’ most recent defeat to Stoke, several fans have called for manager Chris Hughton to be sacked, but it looks like he will still be in charge for this weekend’s East Midlands derby against bitter rivals Derby County.

The podcast returns for the 2021/22 season! On this week's episode we provided our thoughts on the starts made by every single Midlands-based club in the Premier League and EFL.
The last few months have been very hectic for Aston Villa as they have brought in the likes of Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, but have lost star man Jack Grealish to Manchester City for a record-breaking £100 million. On Saturday, Dean Smith's side did not start the new campaign in ideal fashion, losing 3-2 to newly-promoted Watford at Vicarage Road.
In League One, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's Burton Albion have been really impressive so far, picking up wins against potential promotion contenders Ipswich Town and Sunderland. With three games played, the Brewers sit in second place with a 100% record.
Mansfield Town have also started the season strongly in League Two, with two wins and a draw to their name after the first three matches. Like Burton, the Stags find themselves in an automatic promotion spot at this early stage.

On this week’s show, we reflected on Leicester City’s fantastic victory in last weekend’s FA Cup final against Chelsea. Youri Tielemans’ superb second-half effort secured a 1-0 win for the Foxes at Wembley, prompting some emotional scenes at the full-time whistle. However, Leicester’s season is not over yet, with two Champions League spots still to be claimed going into this Sunday’s Premier League final day.
We also reacted to the news that Sam Allardyce will depart West Bromwich Albion this summer having suffered his first relegation as a top-flight manager. The Baggies will now go in search of a manager who is capable of bringing them back up at the first time of asking; Chris Wilder and Michael Appleton are two names to have already been linked with the job.

We also looked back on a very hectic week for Derby County and predicted how things could pan out for them in the future. Bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers went head-to-head in the Premier League earlier this week. The Baggies managed to extend their unbeaten home run in the Black Country derby – which dates back to September 1996 – thanks to Mbaye Diagne’s second half header, which meant that the game finished one apiece.

Kelechi Iheanacho was in the headlines yet again as he set up Timothy Castagne for Leicester’s first goal before netting the winner himself ten minutes from time with a fantastic left-footed strike.
West Bromwich Albion’s hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship are all but over after they failed to win at Villa Park against West Midlands rivals Aston Villa. Last weekend was also an enjoyable one for fans of Leicester City, as the Foxes beat Southampton 1-0 at Wembley Stadium to reach next month’s FA Cup final. The only goal of the game was scored by Kelechi Iheanacho who, as mentioned numerous times in previous episodes, is in terrific form!
