I am joined in todays episode by Niamh Solomons, an old student of mine. I am so proud of Niamh's journey, she is now in her first year of university studying Nutrition and Dietetics (BSc). Niamh specifically chose this course because of her own personal journey with an eating disorder, Orthorexia Nervosa. This condition is not as well recognised as others, but as we discuss, is an obsession with healthy eating and is just as serious.
We discuss the condition and how it started in lockdown with good intentions but became obsessive and all consuming. With the support of her family, Niamh was able to realise the extent of her disorder and was able to start the road to recovery. After some time off exercise, she found a love for resistance training in the gym and has developed a much more balanced approach to her nutrition.
Her relationship with food and exercise is now in a healthy place and she is passionate about her education in her chosen field. Following her studies, Niamh hopes to help people be more equipped to live a happy, balanced and thriving life.
Please do reach out to a health professional if you believe that you or a loved one is suffering with an eating disorder.

Chloe Brennan is leading the way for the next generation of powerful girls who enjoy weight lifting. Chloe found herself competing in strongwomen competitions (yes, the competitions where they pick up huge rocks!) after being encouraged by the club she was training with- turns out, she was made for it! After winning the Under 73kg class at the Arnold Pro Strongwomen Championship 2022, Chloe has now set her sights on competing not only in Strongwomen competitions but plans to dabble in some Olympic weightlifting in the near future!
We discuss the origins of weightlifting and the historical stigma around resistance training for women that STILL exists today.
We delve into the benefits of resistance training, including improved body composition, improved bone density, increased metabolism and potentially the most underrated benefit being improved mental health.
It was such a pleasure talking with Chloe, she has a huge heart and is keen to work with more groups of people, including those with different needs in order to help them enjoy all the benefits. I can't wait to see what Chloe achieves in the coming years!
