The desperately-needed conversation about parenting ft John Cuturilo

In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with John Cuturilo from the Your Listener Podcast about parenting. Raising children will always be perhaps the world's most important job, and it brings joy in to the lives of many. But it also brings with it great responsibilities, including self-regulation, discipline, patience, sacrifice, and empathy. While we may consider becoming a parent to be a natural progression for adults, too many ignore or are unaware of how easy it is to influence their children in undesirable ways that could have consequences for the rest of their adult lives. John and I discuss some of the most important (and sometimes most ignored) issues in the domain, including

the need for personal responsibility, informed choice, and conscientiousness in helping children to develop in a psychologically and physically healthy manner.

Spirituality versus science: Are we so different? With John Cuturilo

Are spiritualists just hallucinating? Is living your life by science too rigid? And what exactly is manifesting, and does it have a place in scientific psychology?

In this episode, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Life Coach, John Cuturilo. John and I travel out of our comfort zones in to daring intellectual territory. Society is becoming increasingly polarised and the slightest difference between people is treated as cause for major conflict. With Intuitive Reading being considered a spiritual practice by many, and John’s practice being based in Western science, our respective philosophies often don't co-exist peacefully. But we demonstrate that having civil dialogue and exploring some of the most uncomfortable questions together isn't just possible, but a necessary part of a civil society.

Therapist Jaime Simpson on normalising anxiety and co-regulating with your children.

On this weeks episode of the Eb n Flow Podcast, I was privileged to have a chance to sit down with the lovely Jaime Simpson.

Jaime is a mother, counsellor, author and academic in the domestic violence, religious trauma and clergy abuse space. In our conversation we talked about her experience navigating the uncharted waters of having a neuro diverse child. And assisting your children to successfully self regulate. It was through this experience that Jaime‘s book A Monster Name Zee was born. As Jamie and her family navigated big emotions like anxiety, storytelling became an integral part of soothing and educating her children on their emotions and how to regulate. Jaime talks to us all about her new book and gives great insight into co-regulating with your children, the importance of normalising feelings like anxiety and how storytelling can be such a powerful tool of healing.

This chat was so informative and is a great episode to listen to for any parents and adults in general. It’s time we remove the stigma away from our emotions and learn healthy and productive ways of self soothing and regulating ourselves. I hope you enjoy. X

Tangaroa on smoking Marijuana at 5, active addiction and breaking intergenerational cycles.
On this weeks episode of the Eb n Flow podcast, i am so excited to be sharing this incredible interview with you all featuring the inspiring Tangaroa Jackson. Tangaroa is the true epitome of human resilience and embodies the strength and courage of a warrior. In this conversation, he courageously takes us through his childhood experience with complex trauma and early exposure to illicit drugs. He shares with us the horrific reality of smoking Marijuana at the age of 5 and finding himself addicted to Methamphetamine in his late teens. Tangaroa‘s story follows a very common thread of neglect and trauma that is often seen in many households throughout New Zealand and within the Polynesian/Māori community. He touches on the normalisation of substance use within his community and intergenerational cycles that continued. As complex and challenging as Tangaroa’s experience has been. He has taken his cane and chosen to rise to the occasion and break those intergenerational cycles himself, celebrating almost 6 years of being clean off Methamphetamine. Tangaroa is the true representation of an anomaly and somebody who has fought with every fibre in his being to be here today. It is such an honour to have him share his journey and how he continues to grow and change, despite the challenges he has been through. I hope you all enjoy this wonderful episode.

Story time, Ebony on organised religion, promising her virginity to Jesus and shifting narrative.
On this week episode of the Eb n Flow podcast, Ebony is back with another story time. So buckle up and get your popcorn ready, because this one is a goodie. In this chat Ebony will take you through her experience with organised religion and describes a time when a church leader requested her to promise her virginity to Jesus by signing a petition saying that she would not lose her virginity until marriage. As frightening and archaic as many of these extreme religious projections can be, this episode aims to share the reality of the experiences. Whilst also providing a new perspective shifting the narrative from, you shall not have sex before marriage to emphasising the importance of consensual sex and feeling safe in your body and with your intimate partner. In general society there can be so much focus on how many sexual partners one has had. Whilst rarely ever focusing on feeling safe and comfortable in those intimate experiences. It’s really time to shift the narrative and change the conversation. Lifting the vale of shame that so many feel when it comes to intimacy and sex. I hope you enjoy X

Ebony on Envy
In today’s episode Ebony discusses the complex and sometimes shameful feeling of envy. It is generally a lot easier for us to acknowledge when somebody else has projected their unmanaged feelings of envy onto us, then it is for us to identify when we have felt envious of another person. This is purely because the feeling of envy has very much been shamed and seen as taboo. Often making us feel uncomfortable and guilty for feeling a very normal and human emotion. In this chat Ebony discusses how to productively move through your own feelings of envy when they arise, and the difference between envy and jealousy as well as unpacking how to deal with people in your life that may project there unmanaged feelings of envy on to you. Making you feel guilty for succeeding and like you have to dim your light to make them feel more comfortable. Envy is a complex emotion that we have all experienced in someway or another. Let’s unpack how we can better manage this feeling, so we can find more fulfilment and peace within our lives. Enjoy. X
