Episode 404 – Error Not Found
So, you listened to our most recent episode and you managed to navigate the Halloween candy being thrown at you and you stayed on track.  Congratulations, that’s not an easy task.  But just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, it turns out there’s another shark in there.  This shark’s name is Daylight Saving Time.  But instead of arriving like a shark to eat you, it’s leaving.  Whatever.  The shark analogy still works.  Many of us have a difficult time with the shortened daylight hours arriving at the same time as the colder weather.  It makes sticking to healthy habits an even more difficult job.  This week, Catherine and Donald give some suggestions for adjusting by making changes to your clothes, movement, and food and the concept of Hygge makes an appearance all the way from Denmark.  Plus, Donald watches Matterhorn jumping, Catherine’s knees come a knocking, and the couple introduces you to Hot Axe Throwing.

If you’re a baby and you’re reading this, you’re probably a genius.  Congratulations Baby Genius!  If you’re older than a baby, you’ve probably taken part in some sort of emergency preparedness drill.  A fire drill, earthquake drill, tornado drill, or some other exercise so that you can be ready if the worst happens.  Hopefully you never need to use what you learn in these drills, but most of us would agree that it’s a good idea to be ready just in case. What you probably haven’t done, is make a plan if the worst happens with your healthy habits.  This week, Catherine and Donald talk about the importance of practicing and having a plan in a habit emergency so that you don’t just keep digging yourself into a deeper hole when things get difficult.  Plus, Catherine looks forward to Public Service Announcements, Donald is not sailing away, and we sure could use Dick Van Dyke again.

There are many types of bandits in the world.  We all know about train robbers, highwaymen, and cattle rustlers, oh, my!  What about those bandits who are stealing our time?  It seems like we never have enough time to exercise, eat right, or get a good night’s sleep.  What if that wasn’t true and was just a story we’re telling ourselves?  What if the real bandit was just the way we were looking at our lives?  This week, Catherine and Donald talk about how we often tell ourselves that we don’t have time and then act in a way that proves ourselves right.  By reframing our narratives about time, we can change our identities from “I don’t have time” to “I’m the kind of person who makes room for things that matter”.  Plus, Catherine watches one inappropriate movie after another, Donald wonders when he can start blaming other people for things, and even toasters can be traumatizing.

It seems like it would be a good idea to envision your best day.  Imagine everything going exactly to plan.  You conceive of eating on target, nailing your exercise, and getting a great night’s sleep.  Imagining and planning for all this would be a good idea except that it’s opposite day.  This week, Catherine and Donald ask you to imagine your worst day; the day when you do everything wrong when it comes to your weight loss and fitness.  By looking at all of your worst-case behavior, it can make better choices more obvious.  From there, you can make realistic improvements towards your ultimate goals.  Plus, there were shivings in Catherine’s school yard, Donald feels the burn deep in his soul, and it turns out that this episode is a dramatic dramatization.
